News: One of the most noticeable and impressive samples of James and Stuart's work is a clip from Dalek Master Plan, which is now avaialabe as an extra on the Dr Who: Genesis of the Daleks DVD.
- Outpost Gallifrey - the Doctor Who fan network houses an arracy of excellent and enthusiastic colourists who regularly share their work and collaborate with an often busy forum. Why reinvent the wheel? Just register to see their excellent work.
- BlackMagic - this application is a commercial product designed specifically to colourise black and white photos. It uses the airbrush technique and has a good stored pallette of often-used colours including good skin tones. With Blackmagic, luma information is used to set the amount of colour added to the area.
- Coloriage - designed by Akvis, this is part of a suite of plugins for Adobe Photoshop which will allow the user to apply colour information within a shape by drawing just within the area boundaries, and fills in the rest for you. The disadvantage of this technique is that you can only apply one colour onto the colour, work in the plugin module and have to reload the image into the module to do further colourisation. For movie work, this would not be useful because of the sheer amount of work which would need to be done for each frame would require several 'passes' of the frame to reach photo-realism.
- Recoloured is a colour editing program similar in design to Blackmagic. Add your review to this software here.
